2009 was a great year for Tweet Ups in NM. We had a diversity of venues and turnouts.
April – The first #NMTweetUp was held at El Pinto. Thanks to Lee Stranahan for suggesting one, or who knows when I might have organized my first one. Tom Garrity, representing El Pinto, was great to work with in planning it. They provided a great taco bar and we had about 40 people show up.
May – The next one was at Which Wich in the UNM area. A smaller crowd of about 15 showed up over the evening and most of them became die-hard Wich fans that night. Matt was a cheerful host and made sure everyone had a warm cookie on the house.
June – The first charity Tweet Up was held. Chroma Studios in Downtown Albuquerque was our gracious host as we raised awareness and funds for Best Buddies New Mexico.
June – A dinner and show at Popejoy was next on the list. We enjoyed dinner from Dion’s Pizza and then watched Cirque Le Masque perform.
July – Our largest-to-date, Tweet Up at the Balloon Museum. We had over 275 people in attendance including Albuquerque Mayor Marty Chavez and Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano. Lisa Abeyta was fantastic to work with! With less than 2 weeks of planning and a generous donation of appetizers from Jim Schumaker, owner of the Cooperage and Scarpa’s, we had a night of fun!
The next several months went by without a Tweet Up. Hopefully, we won’t go this long again. Several businesses had shown interest in hosting a Tweet Up, but never did.
December – Our final Tweet Up of 2009 was at Spectators Sports Bar & Grille. I want to thank Pasty Bailey for help in the arrangements. She spoke with the manager, Chris, to set up a date. Free appetizers were provided for the group. About 25 showed up, several of whom aren’t on Twitter (yet).
