ReadyBoost for Windows Vista

by Karl Gephart on January 30, 2010

A friend of mine asked my help today with his sluggish laptop. After eliminating all the unnecessary memory-hogging programs from his StartUp, defragging his hard drive, etc., I decided to quickly grab one of my 4GB jumpdrives I had lying around and add it to one of his USB ports. I accessed “my computer,” right-clicked on his “removeable drive,” selected “properties,” then clicked on the “ReadyBoost” tab. I glanced at “Speed up your system by utilizing the available space on this device.” I just clicked on “use this device, apply, and ok.” Done! Vista makes this so easy!

Don’t forget, if you need to detach the jumpdrive to move your laptop, you’ll need to select, “Do not use this device.”

What an inexpensive, easy way to improve your computer’s performance by adding “virtual” memory!
